Writing Romance with Bite

Driving home from kickboxing class always assaults my senses. I enter the dojo in daylight and leave as the sun is setting. It's like entering a different world where all the rules have changed. I race to beat the sunset. Some primitive part of my brain remembers a time when it was BAD to be out after dark. Creatures with tortured cries ruled the dark and waited to devour an unfortunate who didn't make it safely home.

Yet when the moon shines on the sea, it's hypnotic. You can't take your eyes off it. It calls you and dares you to be embraced by its depths. So many late night swimmers have paid the price when some monster of the deep thought they were a late night snack.

It's the same with the eyes of a vampire. They draw you in and that glow warms your heart, fires your blood, and before you know it--BAM! You're a member of the undead.

Ah, that's why I love writing romance with bite. I love the moment when all the rules change. The moon is coming up. I think I'll take a walk on the beach. Want to join me?

I used to love driving out to Malibu late at night and sitting in the moonlight, listening to the waves.

I miss being near the ocean! But the moon shining on the Thames is awfully good and I'll be back in London soon.

Loved this post! Rivers at night are equally lovely, and tempting.
