Author Interview - The Reaper Collection by Jade Royal #author #interview

- What is your “day” job if you are not a full-time author?

I write full time now. I used to work in finance.

- If you wrote a book about your life what would the title be?

Welcome to my world...

- What is the hardest thing about being an author?

Hardest? I don’t think any of it is hard, per se. I think that if you’re indy, there are more hats that you have to wear and so that means that you’ll tire more often. I have a team that works with me to make sure that I don’t forget the important stuff or drop the ball. Having the right people in the right places makes a huge deal. If anything about it is difficult, it’s that. Your support system. If you have that in place, the rest is just mechanics.

- What is the best thing about being an author?

For me, making an impression on someone with a story. A lot of authors come up with these crazy ideas with various twists and turns in order to grab the reader's attention and also have them relate to it in some way. If you manage to do that and also affect their lives, man… it’s the best feeling. Authors can only tell stories to the people who are willing to listen.

- Have you ever been starstruck by meeting one of your favorite authors? If so who was it?

J.R. Ward. I was at her signing here in Cincinnati, OH and it was one of the best feelings. She’s lively and just as fun as all of her stories are. She’s also nailed this natural charismatic appeal down to match her “off-screen” persona. Being out for the signings is something she does for her fans. But she’s still blunt with a little bit of shyness thrown in there. It’s awesome.

- What book changed your life?

The Invisible Live Trilogy Series by E. Lynn Harris. His personal story and how he became published is inspirational all on it’s own. However, this trilogy is written in a very raw way and it makes love, sex, and obstacles involved seem worthwhile. And nothing inside the books are sugar-coated. He was true to his perception of the story. #inspirational

- What were some of your favorite books growing up?

I read the entire Boxcar Kids by Gertrude Chandler Warner, The Babysitters Club by Ann Martin, Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal, GhostWriter Series by Eric Weiner, The Invisible Live Trilogy Series by E. Lynn Harris, and much much more.

- What books are currently in your to-be-read pile?

I totally need to catch up on The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward. I also have two books to finish by Cherise Sinclair to catch up on her Shadowlands Series. Charlene Hartnady… She's got a bunch of series spin offs that I’ve started and I’m a book or two behind. I need to read Healing of the Wolf by Cherise Sinclair, The Beautiful Series by Jamie Mcguire, and lots more.

- Which do you prefer: ebooks, print, or audiobooks?

I love ebooks but I guess my first love would be paperbacks. Would you be amazed to know that I’ve never heard an audiobook? *pin drop*

- If you could live inside the world of a book or series which world would it be and why?

Easy. lol two options. One: The Vampire Academy. Two: The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.
