Author Interview- In Her Own Words: A Collection of Short Stories and Flashku by Cendrine Marrouat

What is your “day” job if you are not a full time author?

I am a writer, photographer, digital artist, multi-genre author of 40+ books, blogger, and the co-founder of Auroras & Blossoms

Auroras and Blossoms launched in 2019 and is dedicated to upliftment and inspiration in the arts. Every year, we publish two volumes in our flagship series, The PoArtMo Anthology

The adult version features works from a select number of writers and visual artists around the world

We also celebrate young writers (ages 13-16) with The PoArtMo Anthology: Youth Edition.

Authors, writers, and artists reading this interview are more than welcome to submit to us! https://abpositiveart.com/submit

If you wrote a book about your life what would the title be?

My play, In the Silence of Words: A Three-Act Play(https://creativeramblings.com/silence-words-play), is loosely inspired by my life. I have always liked that title, so I would probably use something similar.

What is the hardest thing about being an author?

I love pretty much everything about being an author. Even writer’s block does not affect me much.

However, being an indie author comes with quite a few hurdles. A majority of people continue to look down on us—especially if you are a poet. Traditional publishing is still regarded as the be-all and end-all of publishing.

What is the best thing about being an author?

The opportunity to entertain and (hopefully) help readers.

Have you ever been star-struck by meeting one of your favorite authors? If so who was it?

Never. My favorite authors lived a long time ago. But if I were to meet any of them, especially Emily Dickinson, I think I would just stare at them without being able to utter a word. They would probably think I am very strange. LOL!

What book changed your life?

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. I often call it my personal bible. It came into my life at a time when depression ruled my days.

Gibran has been such an influence in my life that one of my books is dedicated to him: After the Fires of Day: Haiku Inspired by Kahlil Gibran and Alphonse de Lamartine

What were some of your favorite books growing up?

I had access to a large variety of books when I was a kid. My mother, who was an avid reader, taught me to read, write and count before I was out of kindergarten. My father devours books.

I have always had a soft spot for space and history. Images of galaxies and planets, in particular, made my heart skip a beat as a child.

What books are currently in your to-be-read pile?

These days, many of the books in my TBR pile are short story collections and books on creative writing.

Which do you prefer ebooks, print, or audio books?

Print books will always be my top choice. I love touching and smelling pages! With that said, ebooks are very convenient and cheaper to acquire.

Audio books do not interest me. As a visual learner, I need to see the words to be able to follow a story.

If you could live inside the world of a book or series which world would it be and why?

I would love to visit Jane Austen’s world. The way she depicts the society of her days in her books is fascinating.

Another world I wouldn’t mind visiting is the one in Gulliver’s Travels, especially the Land of the Houyhnhnms. Jonathan Swift’s book is a master class in effective satire. Gulliver and I would probably get along.

Thank you very much for having me!

Review:
A lovely collection of short stories and flashku, a literary form of flash fiction of her own creation, that visit and revisit the many forms love can take throughout our lives. Immersive, palpable, emotionally intelligent characters and themes make this collection a very enjoyable experience. One for my bookshelves! - Sarah St. Erth
