Interview - Beautiful by Leigh Hatchmann #beautyandthebeast #fairytaleretelling #authorinterview

- What is your “day” job if you are not a full time author?

I am a full-time author and part-time editor. Both of which I love almost as much as reading. J
- If you wrote a book about your life what would the title be?

Oh, ha ha ha! This will be interesting . . . Love, Tears, and Books? ;-)

- What is the hardest thing about being an author?

Self-doubt/Impostor Syndrome. BEAUTIFUL is my 21st book and I have had a best seller and signed contracts with 2 of the “Big Five” publishing companies, yet this is STILL something I tackle.

- What is the best thing about being an author?

It’s clichéd to say this, but: being blessed to do what I love every day.

- Have you ever been star struck by meeting one of your favorite authors? If so who was it?

Yes. Karin Slaughter. I’m not normally fazed by celebrity, but when it came time for her to sign my copy of her book (Cop Town), words would not come out of my mouth. Lol!

- What book changed your life?

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. As a child, I felt like the titular character for several reasons. Hence, to read a story where a character like me grew up to have everything she ever wanted was inspiring and gave me hope.

- What were some of your favorite books growing up?

Enid Blyton books were my favorite. I got into Agatha Christie and Harlequin romances probably a little earlier than I should have, but I loved/love them and didn’t let something as inconvenient as age stop me. :-D

- What books are currently in your to be read pile?

Oooh, so many. The Merry Magic series by Shelley Russell Nolan, The Twisted Vine by Alyce Caswell, Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, An African Princess by Walter Dean Myers, Christmas With You by Nora Roberts, and His Christmas Angel by Michelle Douglas are some of the ones I am particularly excited about.

- Which do you prefer ebooks, print, or audio books?

I am yet to try audio books! I prefer ebooks when I’m traveling, but otherwise, I don’t have a preference - if it has words, I’ll read it. :-D

- If you could live inside the world of a book or series which world would it be and why?

The Three Sisters Island series by Nora Roberts. It has a bookstore café, hunky locals, sassy witches, and is set on a gorgeous island – enough said. J

Book Description:

Bella-Rosa Amato

My life is the envy of women everywhere. I live in a gorgeous mansion, wear expensive clothes, go to A-list parties, and attend a prestigious college.

It is a life of beauty and glamor . . . and all of it is a lie.

Behind closed doors, I am bullied by my cold and powerful father. With no money of my own, I have no choice but to obey him . . .

Until I am attacked, and a half man-half beast intervenes. Kit takes me to his home to heal, where I am immersed in his secret world. As we bond over unexpected experiences and shared interests, my gratitude changes into something that feels as old as time.

Kit/King

I was created for the darkness and, for a while, it controlled me. But I escaped that life and made a new home for myself.

Before Bella crossed my path, I didn’t think happiness was possible. But she not only accepts my differences, she offers friendship.

Her gentle and compassionate heart opens me up to those parts within me.
With her, I don’t feel like the beast I have always been labeled.

But the closer we get, the more I wonder if I am truly as human as she believes, and whether the mistakes of the beast can ever be forgiven . . .

When an old enemy resurfaces, Bella and Kit will need to stand firm in their love, face the brutalities of the past, and trust in the beauty that comes from within to make it out alive.

BEAUTIFUL is a sweet and dark, modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The themes of beauty, strength, redemption, and love shine through in an unforgettable tale that will make you question everything you think you know about beauty . . . and the beast.

Excerpt 3:
“You were given an order. Kill Bella.”
His head whipped around and his clouded gaze landed on mine. He bared his teeth, growling at me in a new, obedient way.
Even then, I didn’t lose faith in him.
In us.
I put my hands up in a defensive gesture. “You don’t want to hurt me, Kit. I know that.”
He edged closer, then started to circle me, the way I’d seen animals do on documentaries right before they attacked
