Book Description:

When there is darkness, seek the light…

Sebastian Falls has known his fair share of pain and sorrow in his life. His world is one filled with evil and danger. He’s learned to keep his emotions to himself and not let anyone get close. It’s the only way to not get hurt. But when he meets Ariel Olivier, the shy, awkward girl in his class, he wonders if he should continue to stay in the darkness. There’s something about Ariel that makes him want to let her in.

Ariel Olivier never knew when she got a tattoo on her eighteenth birthday that her whole world would change for the worse. From that moment on, her normal, mundane life turned into something sinister. An evil grows within her and it threatens to consume her and all those she cares for.

There is only one person who can help her vanquish what wants to destroy her, the alluring, mysterious Sebastian Falls. She can’t help but be drawn to him. He comes from the same evil world that is trying to kill her. Can she trust him and her growing feelings or let whatever dark power that is controlling her take over completely?

Excerpt:

Ariel Olivier’s wandering mind never rested. It kept her occupied at the most inopportune times, like right now in her Humanities’ class. Mr. Brentwood’s monotone voice as he read a passage in the reference book on religion and its influence on politics was the driving force propelling her thoughts away from the subject matter.

This was her least favorite class. She probably wouldn’t have chosen it if another Humanities subject was available in the same timeslot. But there hadn’t been, so she was stuck with this boring class and Mr. Brentwood’s unemotional and slow-paced teaching methods for the rest of the semester.

The squirrel doing a balancing act on the powerline outside her window had her undivided attention at the moment. It seemed to stare at her, urging her to open the window to let it in. It was cold outside. The puissant wind blew the fur on its puffy tail, making it shiver.

If she could do it undetected, she would have let it in. She hated to see it suffer.

When the squirrel saw she wasn’t budging, it scurried farther down the powerline, searching for another opportunity to come into the building.

She sighed, glancing down at her watch. There was only a few more minutes of class left and then her school day would be over.

She couldn’t wait until she was out of the school. Throughout the entire day, she worried someone would realize it was her birthday and wish her best wishes.

She hated drawing attention to herself. She was shy and reserved. She felt the most at ease when she could sit in class or in the library and not be seen or heard. Being invisible was what she thrived for, because it meant freedom without prejudice. No one could criticize her bad posture when she sat or how her hair curled untamed. Or how she wore only monotone colored clothes and hated patterns of any kind.

She could be herself and not be judged for any quirks, odd habits, or preferences she might have.

Mr. Brentwood flipped the massive textbook closed. The echoing noise it produced sliced into the silence drawing her out of her reverie. She blinked focusing on his words.

“That’s the end of today’s lesson. I’d like you all to read the next chapter in the book and we’ll discuss it on Tuesday.”

All of a sudden, he honed his gaze onto her and he smiled. “I almost forgot one very important thing to mention before you go.”

She shifted her eyes and fidgeted in her chair. Somehow, she knew what he’d say next. She should have expected it. He always did it for all of his students.

“It’s Ariel’s birthday today. She turned eighteen. Please wish her along with me a happy birthday.”

All eyes turned to look in the direction Mr. Brentwood focused. Only a couple of the students knew immediately she was Ariel. The rest seemed to have noticed her for the first time, as if they never knew she existed before now.

She felt her cheeks burning. She wanted to crawl under her desk and hide.

* * * *

Sebastian Falls witnessed the chaos from afar. He cringed noting the scene was stressing Ariel out.

He didn’t know her personally. They’d been in the same Humanities class for the past month and had never spoken to one another. But from the frequent times he’d observed her from the back of the classroom, he could tell she was a lot like he was, an introvert who didn’t like talking in class.

Too bad Mr. Brentwood hadn’t figured that out yet. The worst thing he could have done, he did. Drawing everyone’s attention to the fact it was Ariel’s birthday was freaking her out.

Her cheeks turned beet red and she couldn’t keep eye contact with the students as they swarmed in and offered her happy birthday wishes.

He even caught her eyeing the door. She obviously was contemplating running the hell out of there. If he were in her shoes, he probably would have been thinking the same thing, except his reason was different from hers. She was shy and awkward. He just hated crowds and wanted to be left alone.

Grabbing his books, he made his way out, avoiding the traffic jam around her desk. It was getting too busy and too noisy for his liking. Peace and quiet were what he thrived for. He couldn’t get it at home, but he made damn sure to get it at school.

He walked into the hallway and leaned on a random locker waiting for the perfect time to act. He had no idea how long he’d have to wait—a minute, ten minutes, or even half an hour. But he didn’t mind. It would all be worth it in the end if everything fell into place like he planned.

Author Interview- Rhyker’s Key by M.C. Solaris + $10 Book Store Gift Card Giveaway

●      Q: Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?

○       A: Hands down, the characters in my head definitely hold the reins. I often just feel like a scribe, writing down the stories I see in my head that play out like scenes in a movie. That is actually how I began writing the Orion’s Order series, starting with Calypso’s Heart. I woke up one day and began writing bios for my gifted imaginary friends that I met that day. I absolutely love sharing their stories and the magical species world!

●      Q: Where do your story ideas come from?

○      A: Honestly, I can’t logically explain it. The words and scenes are in my mind and play out like a movie. I know it sounds weird but the stories just... come to me. Some come in vivid dreams. Some come right when I wake up (in that magical state of mind between sleep and awake). Some come when I’m at the grocery store or in the middle of a workout or in meditation. Of course, I take inspiration from everyday life but the stories and characters seem to have a mind of their own and are definitely in the driver’s seat, calling the shots. There’s no plot planning or storyline strategizing for me. Instead, the stories are just in my mind, playing out like a movie and I just write them. I often joke that I just feel like a scribe writing down whatever the stories and characters show me. ;)

●      Q: Have you written any other books that are not published?

○       A: Does Book 3 of Orion’s Order count? ;) It is currently in editing and will be released as soon as editing and formatting is done! I also have several stories that are outlined or have the first few chapters written. They are marinating, not quite ready to be finished being written yet. And I am super excited for when the day comes to share these stories with you all!

●      Q: Do you use Pen/paper or computer/phone to write your notes?

○       A:  Shout out to the Notes app on the iPhone! Seriously, I have about a zillion notes in there that house alllll sorts of things to help keep this crazy mind of mine somewhat sane… somewhat being the key word there. ;) Random story ideas, scenes, characters, words and conversations, etc. come to me at all hours of the day.  I immediately write them down in the Notes app. Then, at some later time, I transfer the notes to these word documents that I refer to as my author bibles. Oh, and I should also give an honorable mention to those ancient inventions called Sticky Notes and a pen for those times I am quickly jotting down a random as hell note about something one of the characters decided to show me when my phone or laptop are not nearby. ;)

●      Q: Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.

○       A: Three words: Tattooed. Bad Boy. Still not convinced? ;) Well, Rhyker is a sexy as sin, black jaguar shifter with a side smirk that rivals Ian Somerhalder. He’s dangerous. Wears all black. Has black diamond stud earrings. Smokes indigo (a species plant). And his piercing, predatory, electric blue eyes are dangerously gorgeous. He’s got that tall, dark, and handsome thing down along with a good dose of muscled strength and wildness (in more ways than just his lethal feline within).

○      Still not convinced? Although, I struggle with understanding how that can possibly be. ;) Rhyker has his eye on Keena, a sweet and caring mind healer, who has been determined to keep him in the friend zone. Because, if she were to be with Rhyker and it didn’t work out? Then it would ruin her. The only problem is that she already knows what his kiss tastes like. What his big, rough hands feel like on her body. What that sexy smirk of his does to her. In fact, her mind won’t seem to stop reminding her of that one time they shared that hot as hell kiss in a darkened corner of a club.

○      Oh, there’s also an ancient evil who The Order, Rhyker’s pack of lethally skilled hunters, is tracking so they can avenge their alpha’s mate and make good on their pack’s sole mission: to rid the evil in their world.

●      Q: How long does it take you to write a book?

○      A: Good question! As a brand new author, I feel like the answer to this question will morph slightly as I continue to write, learn, grow, and get into a natural rhythm that works for me. Also, I think it might be helpful to call out that the books I’ve written thus far are quite longer than the standard (clocking in around 700 pages each book).

○      With that in mind, I wrote Calypso’s Heart in 5 months (but boy the editing process was a long learning process!). I wrote Rhyker’s Key in 6 months (editing process was a little less). And I wrote Orion’s Order book 3 in 7 months (and I’m hoping the editing will be even better this time around too). Soooo, 5, 6, and 7 months.... Here’s to hoping this numerical trend does continue in that direction lol! ;)

●      Q: What are some of your writing/publishing goals for 2021?

○      A: I’ve actually been thinking about this a lot. As a brand new author where Calypso’s Heart was my first novel, to say I’ve learned a lot about writing and publishing books is an understatement (and yet, there’s still so much to learn). One thing I’ve learned is that writing the book is really the just  beginning and there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes before getting to the glorious step of pushing the publish button.

○      Another thing I’ve learned is that balance is important. And this is something I’m currently focusing on and will be one of my main goals for 2021. In fact, I may nominate the word “balance” to be my theme word for the year. So, here’s to finding some balance, a nice groove, and rhythm with writing and publishing books.

○      On a more specific level, I am going to play around with the goal of publishing 1 book per year in all formats (ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook) while leaving room to allow inspiration to take shape in the form of writing and/or publishing extra bonuses like short stories, novellas, or even more full blown novels.

○      Even more specifically, next year, I plan on publishing Book 3 in the Orion’s Order series and set a goal to finish writing Book 4 in the series.

●      Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing/being an author?

○      A: Reading romance novels (duh!), eating yummy foods (double duh!), walking on the beach (while listening to audiobooks, of course), and swimming in the ocean (unfortunately, haven’t figured out to listen to audiobooks while in the water but I’ve certainly tried and ruined many earbuds lol!). Oh, and playing with my fur-babies (3 cats who love to run around with a random spurt of energy at 4am lol ;) ).

●      Q: Do you see yourself in your characters?

○      A: In some ways and with certain characters, yes, I do see some relatable similarities. But there are also many qualities and characteristics that are wholeheartedly not me too. For example, in Calypso’s Heart, Caly and I both love music, morning drinks, and romance books (Oh, and we both love the hot alpha wolf, Blake! ;) ). And in Rhyker’s Key, we learn about just how much yoga, dance, and mindfulness play an integral part of Keena’s life—which I most certainly relate to. On the other hand, both Caly and Keena live alone, which I’ve never done nor do I foresee myself ever doing! And without giving away their stories, I think both Caly and Keena make some decisions that I don’t think I would ever do. ;)

●      Q: Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

○      A: I would say that overall there are some characters and events that are definitely inspired by things in the real world, including similar characteristics, tendencies, experiences, etc. However, one of the characters in particular, Starr, does share quite a bit in common with my sister and best friend, Marchesa. They aren’t the same person in my mind and they don’t share everything in common but certainly the strong similarities between them exist. Not only is Starr’s physical characteristics based on my sister but they are also both fiery and independent alpha females that are unapologetically blazing their own way through the world. My sister is most definitely aware of this and we often joke about it all the time—to the point where I often call her Starr-chesa whenever she says or does something that I feel is just “so Starr.”

●      Q: Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

○      A: A big, fat, teary-eyed THANK YOU!!! Seriously, thank you! And somehow those two powerful words full of love and gratitude don’t even feel like enough. Thank you for your support, encouragement, inspiration, interest, excitement, emojis, gifs, comments, reviews, smiles, laughs… all of it and more! Oh, and of course, thank you for all of the incredible conversations and messages all about the Orion’s Order crew of sexy as sin males and awesome females and of course the resident fur baby Felix, and the supernatural world of species So, in case I haven’t said this enough, THANK YOU! The crew and I love each of you very much! :)

Excerpt 3

“Does this count as taking it slow?” he drawled, putting his lips where his eyes had devoured her only seconds before. Their brief kiss ended with him sucking in her bottom lip.

Her laugh was all too breathy.

“What about this?” He bent his head and gave special attention to her neck with his mouth. “And this.” His hand slid up her body and cupped her breast. “And this,” he murmured, as sweet kisses traveled along her jaw to her mouth, only to end with a smoldering kiss that shot straight through her and landed in low, feminine places.

“Always so bad.” Keena chortled, while being met with his wicked grin. “Rhyker?”

“Yeah, Fire Gem?” he teased.

“Close your eyes,” she playfully requested. As soon as his eyes were closed, she was grinning. Because two could play the little game he started. She placed her hands on his chest and he allowed her to guide his body so he was pressed up against the wall. “No touching,” she ordered, silently pinning his hands to the wall.

His eyes remained closed but his grin was a mile wide at the command laced with sinful games.

Before he could speak, she pressed her lips to his and then dashed for the door as fast as she could. She barely made it one step out of the room before Rhyker playfully wrapped his arms around her from behind. As soon as he pounced on her, she was laughing with pure delight. Even if it was just a few seconds of chase, it was entertaining.

“I didn’t know you’re a fan of hide and seek,” he drawled with an idea suddenly coming to mind.

“Me neither.” She peeled away from Rhyker’s playful hold. It looked like he was about to protest but her stomach took that moment to make itself known by letting out a low growl.

“You’re hungry.” His voice held a hint of concern.

“And you’re astute,” she teased.

His lips twitched in amusement.

“I’m going to go take a shower… by myself,” she added that last part with a smile when she saw that mischievous look in his eye that said too much.

About the Author:

M.C. Solaris’s life took an unexpected turn during the super blood moon eclipse on January 20, 2019. She woke up and began writing bios for her imaginary friends that she met that day. As soon as the pen hit the paper (or fingertips to the iPhone), she couldn’t stop. It was kind of like one of those fire hydrants, spewing copious amounts of water all over the place. The characters and their stories just flowed out of her. She is honored to be the scribe, getting to share her friends’ stories. You can read all about her gifted friends in the Orion’s Order series (Book 1 is Calypso’s Heart).

On a personal note, M.C. Solaris is actually the pseudonym of Marina Schroeder, women’s health enthusiast and lover of all things paranormal romance (PNR) and happily ever after (HEA). When she is not curled up on the sofa with her partner’s oversized hoodie, a PNR novel, peppermint tea, and one of her three cats, you will find her either at the ocean with her toes in the sand or in a forest hugging a tree. Well truthfully? There is one more place you might find her: trolling the aisles of Whole Foods for a satisfying combination of salty and sweet while hiding in her partner’s hoodie… like any proper PNR-writing introvert.

Author Interview- The Continuing Journeys of a Different Necromancer by James J Crofoot #interview #authorinterview

- What is your “day” job if you are not a full time author?

Well, right now I am trying to write full time. I hold down misc. jobs part time and have the full support of my sister, whom I live with. She’s great. Full support.

- If you wrote a book about your life what would the title be?

The life of a liar. That’s what they would name my book. My life story would be put on the fiction section shelves. I have done quite a lot, like sailing on the ocean in the Navy. Climbing mountains and have been involved in three different covens of witches who make the magic work. So you see, a lot of my life is unbelievable.

- What is the hardest thing about being an author?

Making a living. I would say that’s the hardest part about being a professional author. I’m really just starting out, although I have several books published I have yet to make a living at it. Yep, making money.

- What is the best thing about being an author?

Everything else! The long hours writing, editing, doing interviews. Writing down the worlds in my mind, the characters I wish I could be in a land where I would love to live. I’ll make money eventually because I can not stop writing.

- What book changed your life?

The Hobbit. I stayed home for a couple days from jr. high school when I was thirteen and read  the book my friend Scott gave me. Oh I had always been a reader, whole encyclopedia sets. But when I read what a proper Hobbit home looked like I feel in love with Tolkien.

- What were some of your favorite books growing up?

Other that the Hobbit, I enjoyed Dune, all of the Marian Zimmer Bradley ‘Darkover’ books. They, as well as every other book I read, shaped me into the person I am.

- What books are currently in your to be read pile?

Right now I am not reading much. I am putting all my efforts into my writing.

- Which do you prefer ebooks, print, or audio books?

I really have no preference, but it is harder to read ebooks. I have owned a nook tablet and enjoyed it. I listen to audio. However there’s nothing like a good print.

- If you could live inside the world of a book or series which world would it be and why?

That would have to be the Darkover world. Its mixtures of fantasy and sci fi are great. There’s nothing like this world.

More than ever, he longs to see the waters of the great sea to the west. Will he find peace there? Will Christina and he find a home with the people of the shores? Maybe.

But, maybe he'll have to fight magic darker than his own to keep his new home. Maybe he'll have to fight magic so dark that even a half-demon witch fears it.

Excerpt

“Not the prince, not the prince,” screamed the old hag.

The demons from the entrance sprang from the walls and came at Thomas.

“Attack the demons,” he commanded his risen and they went into action, putting themselves between their master and the creatures. Thomas ran forward and swung at the nesferatu. The same clawed spectral hands began to claw at Thomas, but his sword worked against them and they retreated into the substance from which they came.

The nesferatu swung at the necromancer and opened Thomas’s chest with the claws of his fingernails.

Thomas swung at the demon lord, but the blade passed through it harmlessly. Marina had lied. He could do nothing against this thing.

It laughed.

Then Thomas felt the leather amulet burn his skin deeper. His mind raced. Backing up against the onyx bowl as it spewed forth its shrouding vapors, he watched the demon lord. The eyes of the thing glowed red and it smiled in a hungry satisfaction.

If the bowl is his power… He turned and swung with both hands down onto the side of it.

The sword shattered. Both the clawed hands of the demon lord raked down the necromancer’s back, causing him to arch backward and yell in pain. The bowl imploded and then shards of the black rock flew in every direction. The boiling, dark green mist poured from the base of the bowl as if liquid. From the remains of the giant dish, something crawled, pulling itself up on thin, torn arms. Its eyes were the solid black of hate and anger.

“I shall rend your soul, necromancer.” The nesferatu spoke the words softly, but Thomas felt the power they carried reverberate in his bones. Then he burst into light the color of the mist, surrounding them.

When this happened, the demons from the entrance scampered up the walls and fled from the cavern. His risen, about to follow, stopped as Thomas commanded.

Thomas looked to find the prince dragging a still jabbering Andrea to her feet.

The creature on the remains of the bowl opened it mouth and turned toward the prince.

“Christoff,” the necromancer said, careful not to speak too loudly, for fear of attracting the attention of the new beast.

The prince lifted his head at hearing his name, but froze half-erect, as the thing caught his gaze.

Thomas moved to put himself between the prince and the thing dragging itself forward. Thomas thought the language the demon lord spoke similar to that which the nesferatu spoke moments before, like something a reflection would say. The prince focused on Thomas.

“Run.”

Grabbing the girls other arm, Thomas pulled the two into action. Nothing stopped them. No hands from the mist reached out from the shroud. All else had fled. Everything seemed absent, gone at the sensing of this new ruler. As fast as they could drag the still dazed girl, they headed for the entrance back into the tunnels leading to the power-blasted crater outside.

“Is it really you, Christoff,” whispered the girl. “Is it you this time?”

“Yes, love,” answered the prince. “You’ve got to run.”

Looking over his shoulder, Thomas saw the new demon drag itself out of the bowl shards and into the concealment of the fog. As it submerged itself, the necromancer saw it legs shredded below the knees.

“We’ve gotta move faster,” Thomas said. “Let’s go, let’s go. Move move move! Risen, attack the demon.”

The new demon halted as the risen attacked him, but only for an instant before they burst into dust.

- What is your “day” job if you are not a full time author?

I’m a project manager at a software company. (*yawn*)

- If you wrote a book about your life what would the title be?

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.”  (sorry for the f-bomb)

- What is the hardest thing about being an author?

Finding time to write when inspiration hits me, and trying to write with inspiration when I’ve got the time.

- What is the best thing about being an author?

Bringing an idea to life, and then bringing it to a conclusion. AKA: Typing THE END.

- Have you ever been star struck by meeting one of your favorite authors? If so who was it?

Not in person. But Rainbow Rowell responded to some tweets I sent her a while back and I about died.

- What book changed your life?

The Hobbit. 7th grade.

- What were some of your favorite books growing up?

*still growing up over here* …. UM… The Outsiders. The Chronicles of Narnia. Edgar Allen Poe-try. I also have a very worn edition of The Great Gatsby.

- What books are currently in your to be read pile?

Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files latest release. I still haven’t had the guts to read it. I’m scared.

- Which do you prefer ebooks, print, or audio books?

Print. I like to feel the book in my hands, I like to smell the book (I know, I know…) and then I like to put them on my shelf when I’m done, next to all the others.

- If you could live inside the world of a book or series which world would it be and why?

OMG. I think I’d go with Harry Potter. I need to save Sirius Black. Period. (for Harry, of course.)

Excerpt

At water’s edge, I try to let the cool evening breeze wash away my anxieties. I barely hear myself or understand myself as I say the words I’m asked to repeat.

Two words, for sure, I know by heart.

By my heart.

"I do."

You may now kiss your bride.

There’s a lingering kiss, a wandering hand. He’s as needy as I am and I smile against his lips for letting himself feel it.

Clapping and cheering, teasing and laughter erupt all around us as we turn and face the world together. The scattered faces of all our friends are a blur, but I can tell they’re happy to take part in the ceremony.

Happy for us.

A declaration of matrimony is made, then we’re hurrying through the small crowd.

People toss rice; they blow bubbles.

The rest of it, I hardly remember.

The dance.

The kiss.

The cake.

It’s all in fast forward.

I hope someone’s getting it on video.

The car ride at the end of the night is as swift as it’s not even happening.

I watch landscapes speed by, clouds swirl.

My mind wanders.

Three words bring me back to him.

"You're mine now." His voice is low and vulnerable, rough and sultry.

I always was.

A soft glow shimmers from a window as we pull up to our new home and I shiver from anticipation.

He whisks me into his arms. He carries me across the threshold. He gazes at me with nothing but adoration.

His smile is disarming. His lips even more so as they travel along my jaw, underneath the soft curls that dangle against the back of my neck, then finally, near the upward tilted corners of my mouth.

He’s everywhere.

Soft fabrics fill the bedroom. Against the windows, on the floor, in our bed. Deep purples and reds. Sheer curtains ripple from the breeze like they’re reaching out to me.

Candles flicker and dance. Their scents romanticize the mood, as though it needs any help.

"I want you,” he murmurs.

You have me. Forever.

Clothes are gone in an instant. He hovers over me, trailing soft, tender, needy kisses. He follows a map of some sort to my lips.

The backs of his fingers graze my skin. Along the dip between my breasts, then my belly, between my legs, stopping when I squirm and giggle.

Wrinkles crease at the edges of his eyes as he grins down at me. My heart wants to burst.

Oh, the intensity in that smile.

I know him.

Better than he knows himself.

"I'll always protect you,” he promises.

I believe him.

His fingers trace. They tease. They dip. They do things I’ve never known fingers can do.

I gasp from the overwhelming bliss of it all.

"So good," he whispers in my ear. The stubble from his beard scratches lightly against my cheek.

I agree. “So good.”

Soft, desperate hums raise flesh along my shoulders, down my back. Experienced hands guide my body, leaving me breathless underneath him.

"I will always love you."

I'll hold you to that.

He presses himself against me, and I meet him, hungry for more.

Then I beg him to stay.

He answers like he always does.

"I can't."

Not again.

The beginnings of loss prick at the corners of my eyes. I hold on to him for dear life. I can’t stifle the sounds that escape me as his strong arms surround me, making promises I know better than to hold true.

Colors fade.

Soft touches subside.

Scents diminish.

And then he's gone.

My eyes flutter open. I wipe away the tears.

My thighs tighten and I throb between them as consciousness creeps back.

I breathe in and out. I roll to my side. I sigh as morning glints through the trees.

I try to recall details, but it’s useless.

I can never quite make out his face, only the sound of his voice. What I imagine it sounds like, anyway. Just thinking about it now makes me shiver underneath the covers.

It’s been haunting me for weeks.

Every time, he sweeps me off my feet. Every time, he loves me. Every time, he leaves me.

“Ugh.”

"Sydney!" Even from down the stairs and out the door, I can hear my grandmother calling me, as clear as if she’s in my room.

I force myself out of the warmth of my bed with a stretch and a yawn. No need to check the time. Gran is my alarm clock.

I peer down at her from my window and watch her for a moment. She’s always told me to listen to my subconscious, to try and hear what it’s telling me, but honestly, even I have to laugh as I think about it.

What can a reoccurring sex scene be trying to tell me other than, “you really need to get laid”?

She catches me spying down at her, and Gran summons me in her typical way. Two fingers placed strategically inside her lips, then a whistle that’s louder than those old air raid sirens from back in the fifties.

I roll my eyes but smile. I wave to her to let her know I'll be down soon to help with breakfast. Then I push the imaginary stranger out of my thoughts and head for the shower, feeling silly.

After all, it was just a dream.
