Excerpt 1:

I opened my mouth to shout out a warning as the Soul Devourer leaped from the roof. The man-beast made no sound, gave no warning, though the promise of death was written on his ethereal face. Swift on his feet, Jae swung the flaming sword around as he pivoted. The shiny blade sliced through the man-creature’s neck in midair, just under the chin, decapitating him with a clean cut a butcher would be proud of—all before I could spit out a single, cautionary word. The head went one direction while the body crumpled to the ground in a heap of unmoving limbs, inches from Jae’s shoes.
The Soul Devourer’s emaciated frame began to disintegrate into a pile of black ash mere seconds after it touched the ground, its chest bursting open like a piñata to reveal a glowing blue light within the hollow cavity. Several white orbs flowed out of the hole in rapid succession, forming groups of three or more. The spheres danced around Jae for a mere fraction of second, as if to thank him for his good deed, before soaring up toward the sky, vanishing within a few blinks.
Souls, I realized. They were souls stolen from countless victims, trapped within the grotesque body of the Soul Devourer and forced to endure a cruel torment. And what of those that were never released? Where did they end up?
The Soul Devourer’s entire body turned to ash and was blown away by the wind by the time I snapped out of my shocked surprise. One down. How many more to go?
A furious hiss resonated from somewhere behind the tomb situated to my right. I rotated to confront the oncoming night freak, fan gripped tightly in my hand. He came barreling around the corner so fast, I nearly lost my nerve and bolted. Instead, I shimmied to my left two seconds before it reached me— disgracefully tripping over my own feet in my haste to avoid its elongated talons.

Excerpt

Magnus waited outside the cottage, anxious for Lexie. Vulnerable because he was cut off from her. Something had changed between them. The thoughts, emotions, and even the actions of the living left impressions in his head. In the beginning, he’d only connected with Lexie; now it appeared as if every person he encountered touched him in some beguiling way.
Confounded by what was happening, he went to the green water at the swamps’ edge along the side of the house. Raindrops created ripples on the stagnant water. Their concentric circles grew, intersecting in swells, releasing voices in their wake.
Magnus waited at the slimy green bank, attempting to make sense of the strange sounds. The cries of men, women, and children rose up and overwhelmed him.
“Save us!” a woman shrieked.
“Please, help me. I want to be free,” a man’s husky voice entreated.
“Take me away from this hell,” a high-pitched wail begged.
The voices built around him, crowding his ears, imploring him to rescue their tormented souls. He had never heard such noises from anyone.
A vision of his Frannie hurtling over the cliff’s edge at Altmover Manor replayed in his head. The sound she made as she toppled to the rocks below resembled the pitiful cries of the spirits around him. Magnus closed his eyes, disgusted by the memory.
When his eyes opened, he scampered backward. In the boggy water, hundreds of bodies floated in various stages of decomposition. Arms, hands, legs, and torsos bobbed on the surface. The woman in black he’d seen with Lexie stood at the water’s edge, calling to the dead to wake from their soggy tombs.
Horrified by the agony he saw on their contorted faces, Magnus wanted to obliterate the vision by returning to his shadowy realm, but he couldn’t tear himself away. The images of body parts and broken souls held him captive as bitter waves of anger and anguish rolled off the water.
“Your master’s in danger.
Magnus spun around.
A little girl in a long white nightgown trimmed in yellow ribbon stood next to him. Down the front, a stain of burnt red went all the way to her bare feet. She held a dirty teddy bear in her arms, but when she peered up at him, a gaping wound across her throat exposed the bone underneath.
Magnus didn’t know if he could believe the phantom before him. Spirits had never reached out to him before. This was Lexie’s realm. Why did he suddenly have her gift?
“Are you real?”
“Yes, sir. Very real, just like you.”
He knelt down beside the child. “What is your name?”
“Mattie. I died in the swamp when I was six. The mistress has enslaved my soul to do her bidding.”
He touched the nose of the teddy bear in her arms. His fingers passed through the toy. “What mistress?”
“The Lady La Fay. The one who called your master to her side.”
Magnus examined her gray skin and sunken eyes. “I don’t have a master.”
She pointed to the porch steps of the cottage. “You’re bound to the woman who went inside. She’s your master and the one who controls your fate. We are all bound to those who work the dark realm. You’ll see.”
Magnus was about to question the child when her eyes went black and rolled back into her head.
Her mouth opened, and her lips stretched, expanding painfully beyond her chin and cheeks. The gaping, black hole spread and almost split her face in two. It covered her entire face, leaving only her flowing brown hair untouched.
Alarmed, he stood up. Then the child dropped the teddy bear and held her arms out to her sides.
He searched the swamps for an escape. He found the souls in the water, their dismembered bodies rising from the surface, coming toward him. A parade of legs, arms, torsos, and heads covered with algae and muck approached his spot on the shore.
He faced the girl, her toes floating above the boggy ground.
A soulless, wretched cackle came from the blackness covering her face.
“Welcome, Magnus Blackwell,” a woman’s whiny voice echoed from the darkness. “Welcome to my world.”

Excerpt 1:

Death by sun meant fire, more pain, and more screaming. As far as Ramsey was concerned the whole ordeal would’ve been an overall drawn out affair.
But he was ready for it. He’d planned to greet the sun like a big boy.
Until his ego reared its ugly head.
There was no fucking way he would be taken out by two piddly fledglings. His self-preservation kicked into high gear.
He’d struggled, trying to get himself to safety. Wait out the impending sunrise in the shadows. But he couldn’t move. The blade they’d used had severed the tendons in his legs, and the force of the blows had crushed through his knees, just to name a few of the injuries.
In vain he’d tried to establish a telepathic link with Marcos, his assistant, but he couldn’t block out the pain and concentrate long enough to complete the thought. Without help he was good as dead. His only hope had been to use his dwindling energy to psychically call for help and pray that a passerby came to his rescue.
It had worked, and now because he’d turned his back on an enemy, he had to steal.
Ramsey didn’t want to take her blood without her permission, but with death at the front door and his ego urging him on, he had no other choice. The moment the woman had stepped into the alley he’d caught her scent. She smelled like the sweetest flower, rising above the stench of piss, feces, throw-up, and garbage. His instincts kicked in overdrive.
He needed her.

Her blood pumped hard and fast through her body. The sound weighed on his ears, his mind driving him to rise up and devour her. He struggled to move, unable to keep control.
He’d willed her closer.
She’d come with tentative steps.
Closer.
He’d stopped breathing. Her scent drove him insane. His body demanded the blood in order to survive.
Blood.
Mentally, he tried to lure her. He’d tried and tried, but couldn’t focus on the thought. Her blood was all he could think about. It consumed him.
“What happened to you?” she asked in a soft whisper.
Come closer. “Jumped. Stabbed. Dying.” He could barely speak. He’d wanted her so badly.
She stayed where she was. Red clouded his vision. Blood lust set in. He needed her. Now.
He’d tried to lunge, but his body wouldn’t cooperate. He whimpered in frustration, pain, and need.
Come closer.
“Do you have a cell phone? I have to call for help, but I left mine at the hotel.”
He didn’t have one. There’d never been a need. Everything he wanted to tell Marcos was done telepathically. He opened his mouth to tell her no, but changed his mind at the last second.
No. Then she’ll leave. “My … my back pocket.” He could barely talk anymore, his energy draining fast.

She’d rushed to him and kneeled at his side. The sound of her blood pounded in his head.
He couldn’t stop himself, and he breathed her scent in.
Delectable.
“Holy shit. This is all blood. You need an ambulance, mister.”
She pushed against him. Her hands roamed his butt, searching for a phone that wasn’t there. With all the strength he could muster he grabbed her, holding her in a vise-grip. She struggled against him, but even dying he had more strength than she did.
“Hey. Wh-what are you doing?”
“Sorry about this.”
He’d opened his mouth wide, his canines elongating in response. She looked on in horror, her screams caught in her throat as he descended on her neck. His teeth pierced her skin, and immediately the warm rush of blood filled his mouth.

She’d tasted better than he’d ever imagined.

A Bloodline’s Echo by M. R. Pilot

A Bloodline’s Echo
The Avadi Series
Book One
M. R. Pilot

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy/Romance

Date of Publication: December 29, 2017

ISBN: 1976766052
ASIN: B078QBPDYJ

Number of pages: 330
Word Count: 98K

Cover Artist: Illustration - JDSarte
Typography - Rebeca

Tagline: A missing father. A handsome stranger. A feud within the Avadi. Cori will find out who she is in this tale of romance and adventure.

Book Description:

Eighteen-year-old Cori has been tucked into a corner of Verbena her entire life. With no memory of a father and an abusive mother, her escape came in the form of living and working in her town’s inn, a place that happens to be owned by her best friend. Cori was all but resigned to the uneventful and dutiful life as a barkeep.

That is, until a hooded stranger showed up—just in time to witness an incident Cori herself cannot believe—and changed everything. Now Cori must leave Sagebrush, the only place she has ever known, setting off to discover love, adventure, heartbreak, and more about herself and the world she lives in than she could have ever imagined.

Excerpt 3:

I repeat the process again. My mind is still, and this time it’ll stay that way. I direct my energy until it’s where I want it: pulsating on the outermost portion of my palms. I sense where my emotions have been placed, set aside during Stillness of Mind. I realize my mistake was immediately dipping into the emotion at the forefront of my mind—fear—and its corresponding memories. This time, I choose to focus on serenity.
The first moon spent sleeping in the little room of the Oak Hand—the first moon of my life I felt free, and the first moon in a long while when I slept soundly. I let this feeling infuse itself, essentially opening the gate holding back channeled energy. I feel the room become warm, but not uncomfortably hot; it’s reminiscent of a soft blanket under a chilled sky.
Curious, I dip into another emotion. I realize that my father is not coming back, and I let the sorrow of abandonment pour out. Quickly following are innumerable memories of Faye’s lashing out: striking me whenever the thought occurred, screaming until I longed to be devoid of hearing, and breaking whatever she thought to be of value to me.

I let the feelings of rejection, anger, frustration, and pain fuse together, and I channel it outwards. I channel it as if I wanted to expel these moments entirely.

Book Description:

Damian Shepard is no ordinary prison guard. He's a Solarian, an alien race that sought refuge on Earth over a century ago. They live peacefully and anonymously among humanity and prefer to live in the towns they have founded. Because they live longer and are stronger than humans, they’ve created their own system of justice designed specifically to punish members of their race who have committed crimes.

Shunned by his family for being gay, all Fletcher Voglar wants is a happily-ever-after with a sexy man who loves him. But when he is wrongfully sent to prison by a corrupt official, Fletcher gives up his dreams of having a life filled with love and happiness. One day Damian stumbles upon Fletcher during a routine check of the prisoners where he works. Instantly he knows that the frail yet beautiful human is his destined mate. Finding a mate is one thing but when that perfect man turns out to be an inmate at the prison where he works, Damian’s world is turned upside down.

But when the opportunity arises to get his mate out of there, Damian jumps at it. The crooked Solarians who threw Fletcher in prison are now after Damian too, and they won't stop until they’re both dead. Can Damian win Fletcher's heart and clear their names or will their enemies kill them before Damian gets a chance?

Excerpt:

“My little sub, on your knees,” Damian said.
In one graceful move, Fletcher obeyed.
“Take everything off, pet.”
Fletcher winked as he slowly undressed. “I don't see why I bother to wear clothes around you, I end up taking them off anyway.”
“Silence, little mate,” Damian said.
“Why do I have to be quiet now? You seem to like the way I make noise in the bedroom.”
Damian chuckled. His little mate's cheeky nature was cute and sweet but very naughty.
“You have now earned your first spanking,” Damian said.
Fletcher mouth hung open and his eyes were wide.
“Why so surprised? You knowingly defied me.”
“I didn't think you were actually going to do anything.”
“You thought wrong.” Damian patted his lap. “Over my legs, ass up.”
Fletcher screwed his mouth into a crooked line.
“Do I need to repeat myself?” Damian asked in a stern, controlled voice.
Fletcher said rolling his eyes. “No, sir.”
“Then place yourself over my lap.”
Damian lifted his hands out of the way as Fletcher lay down over his thighs. It wasn’t graceful, but it got the job done. He had no doubt in time Fletcher would able to do it without fumbling around since Fletcher was a bit bratty.
“I want you to count. I believe ten swats will be sufficient punishment.”
“Yes, sir.”
Damian’s dick hardened. He closed his eyes and concentrated. This was all too exciting. Every inch of his dominant nature was being satisfied.
“You need to pick a safe word. It's a code word to get me to stop if I take things too far.”
“Sir, I have the word I want,” Fletcher said.
“What is it?”
“Velvet.”
“Are you certain this is the word you want to use?” Damian asked amused. He expected the word red or something close to it. Leave it to Fletcher to choose such a gentle and soft word.
“Yes, I'm sure.”
“Then velvet it is.” Damian rubbed the globes of his ass with his large, calloused hands. Damian growled then exhaled a long breath.
“This is not meant to hurt you but to teach you a lesson. If this becomes too much, I want you to tell me. Do not say the word stop. Use your safe word.”
“Yes sir.” Fletcher said.
“Because of your brattiness, you will receive ten strikes. You will count them out, is that clear?”
“Yes, Master.”
“I am not a tyrant. Nevertheless, I am your Dominant so you will respect me as such.”

Damian placed one of his hands on the center of Fletcher's back and ran his other hand over the twin pale globes situated right in front of him. Fletcher's ass was perfectly rounded and curved. After one smack, as the imprint of his hand came up in a nice rosy tint, Fletcher hissed, then his dick sprung to life.
